"Voice of God"

Since 1982 a bishop has appointed me to serve churches as their pastor but when I  officially retired on July 1, 2015, Johnie and I had the opportunity to select a church to attend. That process was not as easy as I thought it would be. But after visiting a  variety of churches Johnie and I chose to call Mount Hope UMC to be our church home.

For me the most compelling reason for this selection was the vibrant refugee ministry at Mount Hope. This congregation has welcomed people from the Congo, Liberia, Zimbabwe and other African nations. These are remarkable people with incredible stories and it has been an honor to be their brother in Christ.

Some of them have formed a choral group that sings traditional African music. They have named themselves “Voice of God.” This title may seem to be a bit audacious but when I listened to them sing I have indeed heard God speaking to me.

This is a very inclusive group and when I dared to join them in this ministry they welcomed me with open arms. It has been a joy for me to worship with them in song. When I accepted the appointment to come here as an interim pastor it was difficult for me to sacrifice the opportunity to sing with these wonderful people.

Well, this month I will have the opportunity to  reunite with them and in the process share their wonderful  talents with you. The Voice of God choir has agreed to come to Berlin Center and LeValley and perform for us. They will be joining us on the Sunday after Easter, April 23rd. I am confident that you will be inspired by their unique expression of worship.
