Sunday School News

April 19, 2015 began the combined adult classes new DVD study on The Problem of Evil.   The adults now meet in the sanctuary at 10:00 am, while the children will be meeting for opening exercises in the fellowship hall.

May Memory Verse1 Peter 3:10 "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech."

This months 4-5-6 grade study on people of the Bible is Rahab, by Keith Heyboer.

The Story of Rahab - We learned from Matthew 15 that Rahab is a descendent in the family tree of Jesus.  You will find the story of Rahab in the book of Joshua.  After Moses dies, God put Joshua in charge of the Jews.  Joshua sent two spies to Jericho.  Rahab and her family lived in Jericho.  Rahab had heard how God had parted the sea so the Israelites could escape from the bondage of Egypt and that God had promised them this land.  Believing that, Rahab agreed to hide the spies on the roof under flax.  She lied o the King of Jericho about the spies and sent his men in another direction to look for them.  Rahab had an agreement with the Jewish spies, that she and her family's lives would be spared when Jericho went under siege and became the land of the Israelites.  After the siege, she hung a scarlet cord from her window so that the Jews would find her and protect her and her family.  Rahab was very brave.  She and her family could have been killed for lying to the King and hiding the spies.  Her belief in the power of God and the promise of the land to the Israelites was what persuaded her to help Joshua's people.  Rahab has earned mention in the Faith Hall of Fame in Hebrews 11:31.
