Meet Your New Pastor

Starting July 1, 2012 your new Pastor will be Ray and Jennifer Sundell who are coming to us from Perry and Shaftsburg United Methodist Churches in the Lansing area.  Ray has been serving there for the past four years, but he has been in ministry for over 25 years.  Ray graduated from Fenton High School and went on to John Wesley College to get an Associate and Bachelor's Degrees.  Ray met Jen at John Wesley College and together they prayed about their future.  They were married in 1977.  Ray still had two years left, but he worked really hard and got everything done in one year.

After graduation they moved to California where Ray worked on a Master's Degree in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary.  Ray attended that seminiary during the time that they received world-wide attention because of the classes on healing and miracles taught by John Wimber.  After graduation Ray and Jen moved to Illinois so Ray could attend Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree in 1989.

Just hearing all of this you might think that Ray's ministry didn't begin until after seminary, but you'd be wrong.  Ray's ministry actually began even before he attended seminary.  First, he was a youth Director in two different Churches in the Flint area, and then Ray served as a Pastor for a Vineyard Church in Fenton, Michigan for two years.  During his years at Garrett he served as a Student Pastor of two Methodist Churches in Illinois.  Then in 1993 he made the move back to Michigan, and he has been serving Churches in our conference ever since.  Ray considers himself an evangelical who is open to the moving of the Holy Spirit.  He was converted as a teenager and has been serving Jesus ever since.

Ray and Jen have three adult sons ~ Jason, who just got out of the Army where he served as a Chaplain's Assistant for the past 13 years with three overseas tours of duty in both Afghanistan and Iraq.  Jordan has been working as an energy sales manager in New York, but is in the process of moving back to Michigan.  Joshua is in a management training program with Menards and will be getting married this July to Taylor Chapman.

Ray enjoys traveling, writing books, and coaching both basketball and baseball.  Jen enjoys good books and children.  For over 20 years Jen has been working with children in day care centers.  The Sundells will be moving into the parsonage at the end of June, so let's do all we can to make them feel welcome.
